Calm My Crazy: Memories of Singing Kids

When T was a baby, I would sing to him “You are my sunshine” all the time.  When he was old enough to talk, he would ask for the “sunshine song” and then would sing along with me over and over again.  I’m not quite sure why he liked it so much but it was something special that was just ours.

Both A and T loved to sing when they were little and would sing along with just about anything.  We had a recording of The Land Before Time sing along songs that we used when my stepsons were little (yes, VHS!) and just as their older brothers did, A and T would sing along to the songs and had them all memorized.

One afternoon we decided to have our own “Family Idol” competition using the mic for our karaoke machine and each of us had the chance to perform (though a few declined their performance invitation).  I had posted this video of T singing his Land Before Time songs for his turn.  A waited impatiently for her turn and she chimed in a few times.

I watched the video again for the first time in a long time and it made my heart melt.  The kids look so young and they all are so darn cute.  This was about 4 years ago.  They are growing so fast.

I have many of these memories locked up in my head but I must admit it is so nice to have videos to watch.  It reminds me that I should capture more of these memories that I do.

As they have grown, I find myself recording less.  But with my phone, there really is no excuse for it.  I can record anything, anywhere.  And so I will.  Because in 4 more years, I want to be able to look back at videos of them at this age to melt my heart.

  1. Could they be any more adorable? It is uncanny how quickly 4 years goes by. I need to start recording more myself!

  2. OMG they are so tiny!

  3. They are so cute!! Can’t wait until Troy is this age :)

  4. We don’t record very much at all. But seeing that recording makes me want to do it more! so cute!

  5. Denise, you got me motivated! I never record my babies (even though 9 and 7 1/2!). And you are right, I can do it on my phone, no excuses. Cute!

  6. I have gotten bad about getting out my camera this summer. It has just been too hot to drag it around. You are right though, with our phones at hand…we have no excuses.
And really, four years ago?! Time flies and they grow so quickly!!
