1 .. 2 .. 3 .. GO!
As we fly onto my parents’ bed, we shout “TICKLE MONSTER!!!!!” and my Dad would proceed to tickle us mercilessly as we laughed and squealed with glee.
I fondly remember the Tickle Monster from my childhood and, as was my birthright, I became a Tickle Monster myself when my stepkids came along. They would love to run around the living room while I threatened with my tickling fingers. And now, with A and T, I become the Tickle Monster quite regularly.
The other day T and I were home alone and I was getting frustrated playing a video game with him because, well, I’m not very good. So I asked if he wanted to do something else. But instead of calling forth the Tickle Monster, I asked if he would like to have Wrestle Time. He eagerly agreed.
To be fair, I wrestled on my knees which played right into T’s signature move of run around behind me and jump on my back.
He would “juke” one direction and then run around the other. It is a tough move to defend against.
We wrestled and talked a little smack.
“Bring it on old lady” he would say with arms outstretched.
You win some, you lose some.
He was so excited to tell Hubby and A about Wrestle Time and how he couldn’t believe he would beat me but he did.
I watched as his face lit up and he smiled. He has asked for Wrestle Time pretty much every day since then.
The Tickle Monster will always hold a special place in my heart. It was my childhood, a special time for my brother, my Dad and me. And the Tickle Monster will no doubt return. (BTW, my kids know full well that the original Tickle Monster is my Dad and they ask him to tickle them too).
But right now I’m partial to Wrestle Time since it is something we created as a special game for us. We play and have fun and just be kids together. I love it.
