Calm My Crazy: Bloggy Friends

I have met a lot of fabulous people through blogging.  At first it was through comments on each other’s blogs or conversations on Twitter.  Then I went to Bloggy Boot Camp and got to meet so many bloggy friends in person.

Since then I hung out with Kristen from The Preppy Girl in Pink and Kristin from What She Said for a fabulous evening of Magic Mike and tapas.  I almost got to see Ilene from The Fierce Diva Guide To Life when we were on vacation near her neck of the woods.  And through working as a Community Lead at The SITS Girls I’ve been able to text and Skype with Adrienne from The Mommy Mess.

It has been so fun to see these folks in real life that I feel connections with through my computer.  I will get a chance again next week to see many folks as I head to Chicago for another Bloggy Boot Camp.

Another fun part of making friends through blogging is being able to write for each other.  Adrienne asked me to write a guest post for her blog and I was so excited!  It is such an honor to be asked.

So head on over there today when I talk about my mommy mess and have a look around.  You’ll love her.

Two Year Blogaversary and My First Ever Giveaway!

I am so very thankful for the last 2 years.  I never really thought of myself as a writer or a blogger early on.  And now, I still find it a bit strange to think of myself as a writer and blogger.

But it is what I am.  It feels right to me.  If feels like me.

I love writing about what is in my head and what happens in my life.

I love that what I write can connect with others.

I love that this platform allows me to meet such fabulous people.

In honor of my blogaversary (which was Sunday but I figured I wouldn’t stomp on Father’s Day), I have decided to give a little something to those who read my words.  A little thank you for making this so much fun for me.

I’m even going to use the fancy giveaway thingy-ma-jig below to give away a $25 Starbucks gift card.  I hope you enter and share.

Thanks for the last 2 years and here is to many, many more!

Calm My Crazy: It’s My SITS Day!

It is so awesome that I can combine my new meme with my SITS day!  I can tell you, there is nothing that can calm the chaos than being part of a community and connecting with so many online friends!

First and foremost I want to thank The SITS Girls for being such a fabulous community!  I have become very involved with the community recently and attended Bloggy Boot Camp in Philly and I have to say that these ladies and this community is a great place to learn and connect.

So, if you are new here, maybe I ought to tell you a little about me.  I’m incredibly goofy.  I will make an absolute fool of myself if it will get a laugh.  I simply love the sound of laughter.

I am fluent in sarcasm.  I really can’t keep a sarcastic one liner from leaving my lips.  It’s a gift.  And a curse (in the ever eloquent words of Adrian Monk).

I also am a hot mess of emotional issues.  I am very open about my struggles with depression and anxiety and I’m told a complain just a little bit (OK a lot) about my migraines.

This blog has evolved to be a place where I can share and connect with others and we get a chance to laugh and cry together and hopefully along the way we will learn a little something about ourselves.

Check out my About page and Best Posts for a helping of posts that show what I’m all about.

I live for comments and connections so tell me anything.  This is a place to let it all hang out!

And letting it all hang out will always Calm My Crazy!

Random Round-Up #24

Well it has been a while since I word vommed out some random and spread a little bloggy love.  So here I go!

I have found it interesting that when I find a new game for my phone, the next time my teen stepsons come over, they have also just discovered the same game.  It’s as if the Apple App Store transcends the generations.  Oh, come on, you find shiz like that interesting too.

Winter this year has not really been much of a winter.  One day it is 60, the next it’s 30.  My daughter insists on wearing shorts and short sleeves when it is barely considered sunny and warm.  And I can’t argue with her because, well, she gets this stubborn streak from somewhere in our family (hint: it’s me).  So on top of my inability to ever dress my kids for the weather appropriately, I have my daughter trying to make it look like I don’t care whether they freeze or not.  Whenever we get reminders in the weekly school newsletter to dress our kids for the weather, I am pretty sure it is addressed specifically to me.

Work has had me really busy lately.  I am a crappy multitasker and have the worst time focusing and deciding which tasks to do first.  It has me forgetting daily home life tasks left and right.  I forgot about a daisy event for my daughter and constantly can’t remember to send back library books and even homework for the kids.  It really has me missing the ADHD medication I was on.

Random Round-Up #23

And here is your dose of random:

I was lamenting about how much my stepsons have grown and how quickly.  I can’t believe my oldest will be in college this time next year.  When I asked my youngest stepson, C, “where did the time go” he responded by motioning behind him and saying “that way”.  Funny, little punk.

I spend a lot of time driving my kids around to basketball games and practices.  When I drive by middle stepson, R, the ride is usually filled with sarcasm since we both are fluent.  He said something snarky and I responded with “I’ve been here nearly all of your life and that is how you treat me” with fake exasperation and hurt.  He responds sounding like he isn’t sure if I was really offended with “hey, you know we always pick on each other”.  I laughed and thought, heh, I’m better at sarcasm than he is.  Score one for me.

We have been trying to convince my son T to cut his hair for a while now.  We usually shave it off, then let it grow and shave it again.  But this time he simply refused to let us cut it.  It was really looking shaggy and curling up on the ends.  He said that he wanted it long so that he could be like an animal that grows extra hair in the winter to keep warm.  Since he is playing basketball and running around, we tried telling him that he would get less sweaty if he had short hair for basketball.  I don’t think that really made a difference but he finally allowed us to shave it.  Now all he is doing is complaining his head is cold.  But hey, he no longer resembles our Samoyeds.

And here are some posts I read recently and would like to share with you:

  • This post combines community togetherness with the pure goal of revenge.  Snarky in the Suburbs is a genius.
  • I found this post by Late Enough to be quite hilarious.  Especially after my kids burst into my bathroom while I was showering and starting giggling uncontrollably.
  • I really liked this idea from The Martha Project.  Such a neat way to personalize Christmas for the kids.

Random Round-Up #22

A LOT of folks have been tweeting and blogging about their Elf on the Shelf adventures.  Honestly, I have never heard of this before.  Sounds like something kids could really get into but man, what a pain for the parents to move that sucker around every night.  Glad we never did it and A and T are old enough that we can quietly look the other way and pretend we don’t know anything about it.  Seems only 1 of A’s friends has talked about it and none of T’s.  Score, I can stay lazy!  I will say that I think the folks who have posted their elves in compromising situations are cracking me up and I linked a few below.  But I still think the elf looks pretty creepy.  I keep thinking about the clown toy in Poltergeist that attacks the boy. Or the creepy ventriloquist dummy that came to life in a Buffy episode.  :: shiver ::

Well it turns out we have a budding forger in the family.  I should have known it would end up being my innocent looking little girl.  We have to sign and initial various homework assignments for school so when she did her reading earlier this week, she brings over her reading paper and proudly shows me that she has already put my initials on the paper and exclaims “I made it look just like the other ones!”  And she did.  I politely explained that the parents are supposed to do that, not the kids and she sheepishly grins and says OK.  I fear that she will forget this little lecture the first time she has a report card or note that she doesn’t exactly want me to see.

I took A and T shopping to get some toys for Toys for Tots and they were happy to pick something out to give but also took the opportunity to show me more of what they would want for Christmas.  A picked up just about everything.  I took photos but then told her that it would be hard for me to know which ones she wants most if she picks so many things.  I don’t think she cares, she just wants everything.

I spent a while on YouTube searching around for funny wedding entrances and parent/child dances.  No reason, just looking for some funny.  I was surprised at how many there were and how funny some are.  Although folks should just skip over the boring normal part at the beginning and just start when they really get down.  I may be wasting time but I don’t have that much time to waste.

Random Round-Up #21

Here is your weekly dose of random plus some bloggy love.

We had a great Thanksgiving week.  Lots of food, family and fun.  A and T played tag and other games that were basically “run around and scream” will my extended family’s kids for several hours on Thanksgiving day.  It was so fun to watch.  T had such a red face afterwards.  When we asked him if he was ready to go he said he wanted to stay for 2 more hours.  I guess he was having fun.

I spent a bunch of time this weekend driving my kids around to basketball games.  A was very upset when it was time for me to leave for the next game so she came with me.  She spent the time during the games listening to music and dancing around.  Not sure she actually watched any but she enjoyed herself.  I did NOT enjoy when C took a charge from another player and landed on the ground smacking his head very hard.  I shot up in my seat instinctively ready to leap over the folks in front of me and see if he was OK.  He was a bit dazed but OK and I’m glad I didn’t run out there because he probably would have been mad his step-mommy babied him.

My FIL has been here for several days helping Hubby with finishing our attic.  We have a few areas of the house that are in progress as they get walls, floors, etc and it can be a long process since Hubby also needs to go to work and bring home the bacon.  I really appreciate that we can get help from family for stuff like this.

It was nice to have some days off of work.  Although I intended to try to get some work in, I’m actually glad I didn’t so that my brain could rest.  Instead of thinking about work I could do fun stuff like school my kids at Words with Friends or embarass them by head banging to various tunes.

And here are some posts I read recently and would like to share with you:

  • If you have never visited Band Back Together you really should.  It is a wonderful, safe place for anyone to share really difficult things and get support from a great group of people.  I don’t get to read and comment on as many posts as I’d like but I always feel better when I get a chance to give someone a little support in their time of need.  It is a site managed by the awesome Aunt Becky of Mommy Wants Vodka and she shared one of her own stories this week that must have been very difficult to write.
  • Now she will tell you that she isn’t much of a blogger and more of a twitterer but when she posts, it is downright hilarious.  She is Jen over at The Martha Project (and on Twitter @TheNextMartha) and she totally went all out for Black Friday shopping.  Check out her vlog about how she is becoming The Next Christmas Champ
